After discovering that our built in bookshelfs were too narrow to hold our dvd player & cable box my husband & I began the search for a sleek shelf that would do the trick. Everything we found in the stores was quite bulky & seemed to be designed to hold a tv along with audio components - too large & more than we needed. This shelf is exactly what we were looking for; other reviews do it justice as well - assembly took about an hour & was a bit tedious, but anyone that can follow directions can figure it out. It is deep enough to hold larger components & is very sturdy. It matches contemporary decor well & overall is worth the money.

This stand is extremely sturdy, but because of the single rear column support doesn't cast a huge shadow. Exactly what I wanted. Be mindful of the depth of your components because the design does not allow for hanging them off the back. In reality, anything save for a 400 DVD changer fits perfectly and even that does not hang off the front.
I liked it so much I bought a 4 shelf version for the main HT.

Overall this is a well designed product that does the job it was designed for in an efficient and unobtrusive way. The one problem with the design is that the rear feet are two small diameter leveling screws... Instead of bare metal the heads of these should be nylon and much larger diameter to protect the floor or carpet. The front feet, by contrast, are large and made of nylon for good protection. The assembly instructions are rather cryptic, and the illustrations are tiny and dark... hard to read. I have uploaded some photos to amazon so as to show various stages of assembly that are puzzling (but Amazon scrambled the sequence of these fotos, so they are not in order). Be sure to start all screws carefully because this is soft aluminum alloy, and you don't want to cross thread the screw holes! I have also uploaded a photo showing physical dimensions of the shelves. In summary, large receivers and Blu-Ray DVD players will fit with room for the cables in the back. There is a 50 pound load limit per shelf, except on the bottom shelf. I did cuss a bit during the assembly process, but the finished product is great.
